Favoritism Forbidden

My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.

Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in.

If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,”

have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?

Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a] you are doing right

But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”[b] also said, “You shall not murder.”[c] If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,

because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

                       Faith and Deeds

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]?

Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e] and he was called God’s friend.

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

CHURCH OF PERGAMUM

“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.

I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.

Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.

Hamartiology - gotquestions.org

Hamartiology is the study of sin. Hamartiology deals with how sin originated, how it affects humanity, and what it will result in after death. To sin essentially means to "miss the mark." We all miss God's mark of righteousness (Romans 3:23). Hamartiology, then, explains why we miss the mark, how we miss the mark, and the consequences of missing the mark. These are some important questions in Hamartiology:

What is the definition of sin? Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18).

Did we all inherit sin from Adam and Eve? Romans 5:12 speaks to this, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.”

Are all sins equal to God? There are degrees to sin—some sins are worse than others. At the same time, in regards to both eternal consequences and salvation, all sins are the same. Each and every sin will lead to eternal condemnation (Romans 6:23).

How can I know if something is a sin? There are things that the Bible specifically mentions and declares to be sin. The more difficult issue is in determining what is sinful in areas that the Bible does not directly address.

It might seem that studying a depressing subject like sin would be counter-productive for the Christian. After all, aren’t we saved from sin by the blood of Christ? Yes! But before we can understand salvation, we must first understand why we need salvation. That is where Hamartiology comes in. It explains that we are all sinners—by inheritance, by imputation, and by our own personal choice. It shows us why God must condemn us for our sins. Hamartiology points to the solution for sin—the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. When we truly come to grips with our sinful natures, we begin to fathom the depth and breadth of the nature of our great God who, on the one hand, condemns sinners to hell in righteous judgment, then, on the other hand, satisfies His own requirement for perfection. Only when we understand the depth of sin can we understand the height of God’s love for sinners.

A key Scripture on Hamartiology is Romans 3:23-24, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

THE NATURE OF SIN ACCORDING TO GOTQUESTIONS.ORG

The sin nature is that aspect in man that makes him rebellious against God. When we speak of the sin nature, we refer to the fact that we have a natural inclination to sin; given the choice to do God’s will or our own, we will naturally choose to do our own thing.

Proof of the sin nature abounds. No one has to teach a child to lie or be selfish; rather, we go to great lengths to teach children to tell the truth and put others first. Sinful behavior comes naturally. The news is filled with tragic examples of mankind acting badly. Wherever people are, there is trouble. Charles Spurgeon said, “As the salt flavors every drop in the Atlantic, so does sin affect every atom of our nature. It is so sadly there, so abundantly there, that if you cannot detect it, you are deceived.”

The Bible explains the reason for the trouble. Humanity is sinful, not just in theory or in practice but by nature. Sin is part of the very fiber of our being. The Bible speaks of “sinful flesh” in Romans 8:3. It’s our “earthly nature” that produces the list of sins in Colossians 3:5. And Romans 6:6 speaks of “the body ruled by sin.” The flesh-and-blood existence we lead on this earth is shaped by our sinful, corrupt nature.

The sin nature is universal in humanity. All of us have a sinful nature, and it affects every part of us. This is the doctrine of total depravity, and it is biblical. All of us have gone astray (Isaiah 53:6). Paul admits that “the trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin” (Romans 7:14). Paul was in his “sinful nature a slave to the law of sin” (Romans 7:25). Solomon concurs: “Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, / no one who does what is right and never sins” (Ecclesiastes 7:20). The apostle John perhaps puts it most bluntly: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8).

Even children have a sin nature. David rues the fact that he was born with sin already at work within him: “Surely I was sinful at birth, / sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5). Elsewhere, David states, “Even from birth the wicked go astray; / from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies” (Psalm 58:3).

Where did the sin nature come from? Scripture says that God created humans good and without a sinful nature: “God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). However, Genesis 3 records the disobedience of Adam and Eve. By that one action, sin entered into their nature. They were immediately stricken with a sense of shame and unfitness, and they hid from God’s presence (Genesis 3:8). When they had children, Adam’s image and likeness was passed along to his offspring (Genesis 5:3). The sin nature manifested itself early in the genealogy: the very first child born to Adam and Eve, Cain, became the very first murderer (Genesis 4:8).

From generation to generation, the sin nature was passed down to all of humanity: “Sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). This verse also presents the unsettling truth that the sin nature leads inexorably to death (see also Romans 6:23 and Ephesians 2:1).

Other consequences of the sin nature are hostility toward God and ignorance of His truth. Paul says, “The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:7–8). Also, “the person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

There is only one Person in the history of the world who did not have a sin nature: Jesus Christ. His virgin birth allowed Him to enter our world while bypassing the curse passed down from Adam. Jesus then lived a sinless life of absolute perfection. He was “the Holy and Righteous One” (Acts 3:14) who “had no sin” (2 Corinthians 5:21). This allowed Jesus to be sacrificed on the cross as our perfect substitute, “a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:19). John Calvin puts it in perspective: “For certainly, Christ is much more powerful to save than Adam was to ruin.”

It is through Christ that we are born again. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). When we are born of Adam, we inherit his sin nature; but when we are born again in Christ, we inherit a new nature: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We don’t lose our sin nature once we receive Christ. The Bible says that sin remains in us and that a struggle with that old nature will continue as long as we are in this world. Paul bemoaned his own personal struggle in Romans 7:15–25. But we have help in the battle—divine help. The Spirit of God takes up residence in each believer and supplies the power we need to overcome the pull of the sin nature within us. “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God” (1 John 3:9). God’s ultimate plan for us is total sanctification when we see Christ (1 Thessalonians 3:13; 1 John 3:2).

Through His finished work on the cross, Jesus satisfied God’s wrath against sin and provided believers with victory over their sin nature: “‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness” (1 Peter 2:24). In His resurrection, Jesus offers life to everyone bound by corrupt flesh. Those who are born again now have this command: “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11).

THE REALITY OF ENDTIME EVENTS

There is a misunderstanding of 2 Thessalonians 2:7, which reads, “For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.” Right now, prior to the tribulation, one of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is the restraint of evil. In verses 8 and 9, we learn that the restraining power of the Holy Spirit holds back the “lawless one” (Antichrist) so he is not revealed before God wills it. The passage says the Holy Spirit will no longer restrain the growth of evil, but that does not mean He will have no ministry whatsoever. In Acts 1:4–5, Jesus promises that His disciples would soon be “baptized with the Holy Spirit.” In Acts chapter 2, Jesus’ promise is fulfilled. In verses 38 and 39, it is written that “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.’” The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is thus assured for every born-again believer, and nowhere in Scripture is that promise rescinded. Regeneration is the Spirit’s work; without Him, no one is saved. If the Spirit were not present during the tribulation, no one could be saved. But the fact is that a multitude that no one can number is saved during the tribulation (Revelation 7:9–14). Therefore, those who come to Jesus during the tribulation period will also be indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Give glory to God for making that provision, because tribulation saints will need the guidance and direction of the Spirit during that troubled time. Another good reason that the Spirit must be present during the tribulation is that He is omnipresent. Since He is everywhere at all times, He must be in the world during the tribulation. At some point—only God knows when—the restraining influence of the Holy Spirit will be removed, the Antichrist will be revealed to an unwitting and unsuspecting world, and the tribulation period will begin. Christ will come to rapture His own before the antichrist is fully revealed . Remember this, the antichrist is already here but He is not revealed because of the Holy Ghost restraining him as the rapture comes forth

UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF GIVING

We all know about giving but not everyone knows the importance of doing so. Giving is an act of righteousness that come from our duty as human to help each others, it is also called Charity. In the bible we read about the charity of giving and also how God uses people to bless others, or how people were moved by the spirit to give. Giving his God's nature and we see that in the word of God. He is the first giver because he gave us this earth for men to live. There are many types of giving but we are going to focus on MONEY because it is very controversial and because many people do not like the idea of giving money, especially to churches. The greatest mistake I have observed Christians does when it comes to giving in church is when they see their giving as a way of enriching the church not as doing what God commanded. Due to this Christians are the most complainers when it comes to finances and breakthroughs. When giving it doesn't mean you are giving as a way of making a church or your pastor rich, but see it as a sacrifice to the true and living God. We read in the bible however, that Abraham met Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God and gave him a tenth part of all of his spoil. (Hebrews 7:1-3) A matter of fact, it is stated that seedtime and harvest will not cease as long as the earth remains (Genesis 8:22). Therefore tithes and offering are also a part of giving. Giving money to the Church is a form of a sacrifice, but it is not the ultimate sacrifice that many people think it is which make it so hard for them to do. The ultimate sacrifice is giving oneself as a living sacrifice. We read in the bible where money were given to assist in God's work, see Mark 12:41- 44 and Act 4:33-37. Giving is also a form of worship when it is done in God's name truthfully. It is very important as Christians that we give because it is the nature and will of God, therefore, as Christians, we must take on the nature and do the will of God. If we go back in the early days we will see that the Levities, priests (Priesthood) live from what the people of Israel give as a sacrifice to God, and in those days no one complain about giving like many do today. Why, because everyone knew in those days that it was a part of their duty to do so. To give is a blessing, especially to the Church, therefore we must practice giving daily. What is Seed-time and Harvest? The principle of seed time and harvest is recorded in Genesis 8: 22, "While the Earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease." Seedtime and Harvest time in the bible basically means, once you sow, you will reap or in other word if you give you shall receive. But it doesn't necessarily mean that you will reap the same time you sow although some have, the truth is, when a farmer sows his chops he has to wait for it to develop. In the same ways we as Christian sows and wait upon God for our return. The farmer also water and fertilizer his chops to help them grow and ready for harvest. So in the same ways we must prepare to give thanks and praise for our harvest even though we do not see it, and it might even take a while but if we have patience and Faith we will receive. There is a law of sowing and reaping. Look around you; everything comes from a seed! the trees, the flowers, the grass, the birds, the animals, the fish, and even you! You don't have to be a Christian to practice sowing or giving. Many people who are not Christians do apply this principle to their lives and got result. Seedtime and Harvest is for everyone and anyone who want to practice it by giving or sowing into God's work or into someone's else life. God had set the law of giving from the beginning of creation and he demonstrate that all through the bible, but the greatest of his giving to mankind is when he send is only son Jesus to die for us. God sow into this world and he is still reaping today the harvest of we becoming Christians. Why it is important to give The practice of giving is a strong demonstration of LOVE toward others. You give not necessary, expecting back a blessing from those you give to, a real giver gives according to one's needs when their hearts is move in sympathy toward them. We also give because we should help one another, showing brotherly love for each others. Giving to the Church is a must because the bible says in, Malachi 3:10 - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of host, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it). Clearly from that we can see that God expect us to give to his house and we know the house of God is the Church. But many people is not with the idea of giving money to the Church, because of the view that they are only making the Pastors rich. But what Christians should know is that giving to the Church is a part of our duty, just as how in the same way the Israelites once gave to the priests of Levities (Priesthood). Yes the priesthood become complacent and lost focus on the main goal, and God did punish them for their evil ways, but God never judge the people who gave, and you know why? Because the Levities, priests were responsible for what they receive and how they use it, and on the other hand God did not punish the givers who gave to them. Therefore, once you give and dedicate your tithes and offering to the work and function of the Church, God will bless you because his words say "prove him" (Malachi 3:10). Giving to the church is helping with the function and the daily activity to run a church. Therefore, when someone say to you we must not give money to the church ask them, how then will the church function? Yes, many people that are out there preaching, teaching and even prophesying is not really called by God and because of this, they abuse the use of giving money to the church, making it insignificant and none biblical. Therefore not all churches are fruitful ground and may not be a good place to sow into, because not every church is being guided by the Holy Spirit. So it is very important that we pray before we sow and give to any Church or anyone. It is possible that we may meet someone who is in need and we need to act quickly and therefore we do not pray, but that is why we as Christians should live a prayerful life. So when things like that occur, we can know and discern what to do, Yes, everyone need help in one way or the other, but that doesn't mean everyone you meet, you should help because we can't help everyone, and maybe at the time you are not the even person God want to use to be a blessing to that person. The law of sowing and reaping applies to everything, both in the natural and the spiritual world- If you sow love, you receive love - If you sow hatred, you receive hatred - If you sow criticism, you will be criticised - If you sow encouragement, you will be encouraged - If you sow the gospel, the result is born again Christians. Money was invented by man later, but represents the fruit of our labour. The law of Seedtime and Harvest applies to Money too! This principle is confirmed in Galatians 6:7, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" Below is some Scriptures about Blessing Deuteronomy 15:10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. Deuteronomy 16:17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you. 1 Chronicles 29:9 Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the Lord with a whole heart, and King David also rejoiced greatly. Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Proverbs 11:24-25 There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. Proverbs 21:26 …the righteous gives and does not hold back. Proverbs 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor. Proverbs 28:27 He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses. Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Matthew 6:3-4 But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Mark 12:41-44 And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.” Luke 3:11 And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.” Luke 6:30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him wouldn't perish, but would have eternal life. Acts 20:35 In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. Romans 12:8 …Or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed. 2 Corinthians 9:10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; Philippians 4:15-17 And you yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; for even in Thessalonian you send a gift more than once for my needs. Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. James 2:15-16 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Sowing and reaping are foundational principles that will never go away. Seedtime and harvest refer to every area of life, not just money. Seeds that are sown into the ground determine what type of crops will grow. For example, if a farmer sows corn seeds into the ground, he is sure to receive a harvest of corn. Likewise, when you sow money you will receive money. . Note: This lesson was not written entirely by us. Parts of this lesson was taking from different articles that was written by different people on the topic therefore we are not taking credit for all of it. This was post only to help those who read it to understand about the importance of the topic, to the glory of God.

LOVE IS GREATER THAN ALL

1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)
If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
